Green Energy; How To Start Converting Your Lifestyle

Green energy may go a long way in making sure the world we know today is around for tomorrow. Green energy is using natural energy like energy from the sun or the wind or water and geothermal energy instead of using fossil fuels that pollute the world for generations. Green systems will keep the world clean and living for a long time.

Using green energy is easier today than it has ever been. In many cities and towns homeowners are taking advantage of the energy the sun has to offer. Solar power systems are compact now and they are not hard to install. You can harness solar power to heat water and produce electricity for a regular house. Solar panels are used to collect the sun’s rays and you can find them On line and at many home improvement stores. They should be installed by someone who knows what they are doing but homeowners can build their own panels for heating water.

Homeowners can also take advantage of passive solar heating systems. Your house must face south and efficient windows must be installed that will allow sunlight to flood the house in the daytime. Brick or stone retains the heat and releases it later when the temperatures cool down.

Power supplied by the wind is possible to use for home use. Windmills come in kits that even a homeowner can put together. The wind turns the windmill which makes electricity that can be used in the home. Windmills can stand alone in the back yard or be attached up on the roof. Any place that gets a breeze most of the time can take advantage of wind power.

Water power is another option for those that have a running stream on their property. It is a little more complex than solar and wind power but it can be done. The stream should almost constantly be moving in order to use hydroelectric power and this does involve a turbine so the regular homeowner rarely uses this type of green energy.

The best way to use green energy is to use more than one of the above systems. The best thing about is that you save a lot of money on electricity and you can also come away with a profit. In the United States most states have to buy any excess energy you may produce and you could end up with a profit.

If you are worried about the added maintenance costs and time it takes to maintain a green system you should stop. Solar power can go for a long time without any regular maintenance. Wind systems rarely need anything but a little oil and lubrication of some of the mechanics and hydroelectric systems are the same. Green systems usually do not take as much maintenance time and money that a regular gas or electric system.

If you rent and can not put in your own green energy system there are still things that can be done to benefit the environment. Use long lasting light bulbs instead of the regular type. Avoid using paper plates and paper towels so that the land fills do not fill with them. If you are in the market for a car get a hybrid that will not pollute the air we breath. All doors and windows should fit tightly and you can caulk around them to make sure they do not let any heat or cool air get out. Fill the freezer with jugs of water to make it more efficient if you do not have much in there. Do what ever you can to ensure the world will be around for our grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Help to save the world for future generations by using green energy sources. By putting more alternative energy sources to work instead of non-renewable sources, we can create a sustainable future.
